At one of the meditation shrines in Hakone Garden, many types of bamboo trees are displayed — there are white bamboo, spiral shaped bamboo, and even a rectangular (cross section) one. Supposedly, they grew the rectangular bamboo as they grow cubic watermellon, inside a rectangular plastic tube. (Japanese people grow cubic watermellons so they would fit better in the fridge) Hmm.. if I was a bamboo (or a watermellon) I’d feel very claustrophobic! :-{

Hmm.. what is he trying to prove? Why not just go exercise at the gym or eat Subway? I guess everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame…

MSN Virtual Earth
Okay, Google had it first (actually they acquired a company), but Micro$oft beats Google this time. It has higher resolution satellite images (I see resolution-battle coming) and zoom with scroll wheel. The user-interface is pretty neat, but novelty is starting to wear off on these satellite images. I mean, how useful are these other than to look up your house or landmarks? I think A9’s Block View is much more practical in real-life.

Are you envious of Mac people using dashboard on OS X Tiger? Now you can run widgets on PC using Konfabulator. (It was announced today that they were acquired by Y! I didn’t even know they existed before the announcement).

Here are some of the nice tool to help you plan bike routes
- KLIMB - Kieth’s deLuxe Interactive Map Builder. It has nice topo-map view of the South Bay area. You can click on pre-defined nodes (big streets intersections) to plan route then get a description of the route and 2D and 3D (this is pretty cool!) profile of the route.
- BikeMaster - A shareware used by ACTC for route planning. Similar to KLIMB in features, but route planning is little bit more intuitive, IMO. Oh, and you gotta love the splashscreen! LOL

Brandi Carlile and her band performed at Yahoo! today. I guess you can categorizer her style as folk-rock.. sort of like Sheryl Crow (but better). We all sat down on a lawn and enjoyed lunch while she performed. Best lunch I’ve had at Y! ^^

City of God Movie Info - Yahoo! Movies
A+
Roger Ebert called it “One of the best films you’ll ever see!” and he is right. It’s also one of the most important films you’ll ever see. Based on a true story, it chronicles decades of battles between rival gangs in a slum of Rio de Janeiro, through the eyes of a photographer-reporter. It’s very powerful and engaging film.
Often, we live the days ignorant of some of the terrible things, such as this, that happen around the world. We, who don’t have to live through it, should feel so fortunate..

Ever wonder why cyclists shave their legs? How they go wee during the race? :)

There’s been a LONG internal email thread ad nauseam on lack of parking in Y! main campus… and the conversation eventually turned into digi-cam vigilante of people who can’t park. It even made to BoingBoing. Pretty embarrasing.. :-/
